“All of us have to learn how to invent our lives, make them up, imagine them. We need to be taught these skills; we need guides to show us how. Without them, our lives get made up for us by other people” -Ursula K Le Guin

In life everything flows and changes, requiring a continual process of creative adaptation. Sometimes the changes come too quickly and we find ourselves overwhelmed, submerged, or washed up someplace unrecognizable. In times like these it helps to not face it alone. Sometimes we need a witness, a supporter, a collaborator, someone to help trace the shape of what we’re making and becoming.

My approach to therapy centers around creativity; not just artistic creativity (though I work with many creative people), but the kind of generative thinking and experimenting that helps us live more freely and inventively in any field or situation. I am interested in what happens when you stop trying to “fix” yourself (according to THEM: society, family, peers; the innumerable self-appointed experts and critics) and instead begin to listen to what your particular way of being is asking for. I see therapy as a space where we can explore core values, rework inherited narratives, find courage to face the nightmarish and painful dimensions of life, and make new meaning--not all at once, but slowly, experimentally, and with care.

The work is future-oriented, but not in a narrow goal-setting sense. It’s about tuning into what wants to emerge: what’s latent, what’s possible, what’s unfinished. Sometimes that means deepening into a moment, a memory, an image, a charged word or phrase that won’t leave you alone. Sometimes it means zooming out and reimagining the whole terrain.

My approach is grounded in a relational psychodynamic framework, with strong influences from the arts, philosophy, cognitive science, and depth psychology. I draw on dream work, active imagination, and a multi-modal way of thinking that values connections across disciplines, experiences, and parts of the self.

I work with a variety of interconnected issues, often including:

  • Self and Identity issues: identity exploration, self-esteem, shame, difficulties with assertiveness, people-pleasing, imposter syndrome

  • Existence and Meaning: major life transitions, spiritual, religious, existential and philosophical shifts and crises, grief and loss

  • Neurodivergence: support for ADHD, Late-diagnosed Autism, Giftedness; those feeling out of sync with dominant rhythms, expectations, and ways of thinking.

  • Relationships: family, partners, friends; navigating the complexities of relationship,  finding connection, belonging, intimacy

  • Specific Problems of Artists and Creatives

  • Anxiety, Depression, just generally feeling bad, lost, confused, stuck

I see therapy as a transdisciplinary and collaborative process: one that integrates emotion, imagination, intellect, and embodiment. It’s ultimately about increasing your joy, your power and freedom to act—making space for fuller forms of experience, expression, and connectedness. If this feels familiar—please reach out and schedule a free consultation! I will be happy to hear from you.

It is in playing and only in playing that the individual child or adult is able to be creative and to use the whole personality, and it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self.
